January School Holidays 2012

During the Janary school holidays, Campbelltown City Library will be running a number of activities for children and teens. Below is a list of all the great activities aimed at young adults which will be run through the library. To see all the activities that are running council wide, check out the Summer Holiday Flyer.

Bookings start Monday 12 December. Bookings are essential.

Cartooning Workshop
Date: Monday 16 January
Where: Eagle Vale Branch Library
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Ages: 12 - 18 years
Cost: $2

Want to learn how to draw faces, animals, monsters and cartoon lettering? This workshop will teach you a range of simple techniques, tips and tricks to inspire your own cartoon creations.

Self-Defence Class
Date: Tuesday 17 January
Where: Ingleburn Community Hall
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Ages: 12 - 18 years
Cost: $2

Teens will learn a mix of martial arts techniques in a fun learning environment which will empower and challenge them.

Car Maintenance Workshop
Date: Tuesday January 24
Where: HJ Daley Library (Staff Carpark)
Time: 2pm - 3.30pm
Ages: 15- 18 years
Cost: Free

Are you learning to drive? Just bought your first car?

A qualified car mechanic will show teens basic car maintenance skills, such as changing a tyre, checking under the bonnet for oil and water levels and many other useful tips and tricks you might need when on the road.

Summer Reading Club

 
Get ready for an Amazing Read at Campbelltown City Library this summer.

Campbelltown City Library is inviting teens to come in and join the Summer Reading Club.


The Summer Reading Club is a free school holiday program with activities designed especially for children and teens from birth to 16 years old and their families and friends.

Themed The Amazing Read, the Club explores the many different places and spaces to read and the incredible places stories can take you – from the past to outer-space.

The Summer Reading Club is a great way to kick off the National Year of Reading 2012 and promote reading as a fun and enjoyable experience.

The Club is run through the interactive website
http://www.summerreadingclub.org.au/ as well exciting activities and events held at the Campbelltown City Library.

Pop into the library to register to participate in the program, receive your free starter pack, go into the draw to win great prizes and have lots of fun. Registrations start on
Monday 5 December and you have until Sunday 22 January to return your reading log.

Pop Culture Explosion!

Campbelltown City Library has purchased lots of new manga, graphic novels, comics and anime for you to borrow. New graphic novels added to the collection include Scott Pilgrim, Black Butler, Toradora, Bakuman, World of Warcraft, Simpsons, Twilight, Vampire Academy and heaps more!

Come down to HJ Daley library to check out the awesome display and see all the new material available on the shelf. Our very own Reference Librarian, Alan, is responsible for all the amazing drawings you see below!

Book Week 2011

The theme for this years Children’s Book Week is ‘One World, Many Stories’ and runs from 20 – 26 August 2011.

Six YA books have made the Older Reader shortlist. The short-listed books are:

Manga Competition Winners

A big thank you and congratulations to all the participants who entered Ingleburn Library's Manga Competition. All the entries were absolutely amazing and trying to pick a winner from each age group was a very difficult task! Winners were chosen based on technique, originality and creativity. After sorting through the huge number of drawings we received, we are happy to announce the winners!

HSC Creative Writing Workshop

Due to unprecedented demand, Campbelltown City Library has organised an additional Creative Writing Workshop as part of the 2011 HSC lecture series. The workshop will be presented by Bernard Cohen at HJ Daley Library on Wednesday 13 July from 4.30pm – 7.30pm.

The Creative Writing Workshop focuses on key writing elements for HSC English including recent markers comments.

Workshop costs $7.50 per person.

Manga Art Competition

Ingleburn Library is running a Manga Art competition for ages 12 - 18 years! All you have to do is draw your favourite Manga character or one of your own invention. Drop your A4 sized artwork in at any of the Campbelltown library branches with your name and library card number on the back.
All the entries will be on display at Ingleburn library and you can enter as many times as you like! There are prizes for 12 - 15 and 16 - 18 year age groups.

All entries must be in by 5.00pm, 4 July 2011.

Winners will be announced and prizes presented at 6.00pm on 11 July at Ingleburn library. Click here for more details.

HSC Lectures 2011

In June, Campbelltown City Library Service will be running a number of HSC lectures for students in conjunction with Camden and Wollondilly Libraries. These lectures cover three important areas of study, including the English Area of Study: Belonging, Peter Skrzynecki's 'Immigrant Chronicle' and Creative Writing. 

HJ Daley Library will also be running an additional HSC Student Information Session with tips on how to get the most out of your study through various library resources. Check out the HSC lecture flyer 2011 for further details.


Lectures cost $7.50 per person, per lecture.

Youth Week Activities and April School Holidays

The theme for Youth Week 2011 is ‘Own it!’ and to celebrate, Campbelltown City Library is holding a number of activities especially for teens between Friday 1 April and Sunday April 10. The library will also be running some awesome activities during the school holidays.

Here is a list of all the youth activities that are coming up at Campbelltown Library and the Branches:

Gaming Day @ Your Library
When: Saturday 9 April, 10.00am - 3.00pm 
Where: HJ Daley Library
Age: 12 - 18 years
Cost: Free

You are invited to drop in to HJ Daley Library on Saturday to test your Nintendo Wii gaming skills against your friends and other teens.

Board Game Night
When: Wednesday 6 April & 7 April, 5.30pm - 8.30pm
Where: Glenquarie Library Branch
Age: 12 - 24 years
Cost: Free

Photography Competition
Start date: Monday 7 March
End date: Monday 4 April
Ages: 12 - 18 years

Take photos based around a theme and submit these images to Ingleburn Library's Facebook page. Every entry will have a chance to win a fantastic prize. The Judging Night will be held on Monday 4 April at 5.30pm and 1st and 2nd place for each age category will be announced. Ask at the front desk of any Campbelltown library for an entry form.

Zumba Class

You will get the opportunity to participate in a Zumba class and learn basic exercise and dance techniques for fun and fitness.
